On Monday, August 4, 2008, three Swissvale Police officers subdued, tasered and killed Andre Thomas, an unarmed 37-year old crying out for help. Allegheny County District Attorney Stephen Zappala suggests he may have died of “excited delirium” - a bogus term that isn’t recognized by the American Medical Association. Was Andre Thomas yet another Black man to be tasered even though he posed no physical threat? In the coming weeks, diverse community groups will be taking action to support Andre Thomas’ family in their quest for truth and justice and work towards preventing further police brutality and taser abuse.
